Renewable energy
Stainless steel is used in equipment for renewable energy production, e.g. martensitic steels are used for wind turbine blades, especially in offshore power plants, austenitic steels are used for internal components of these turbines or, for example, tanks for storing and processing biomass.
Grades used in renewable energy: 1.4521, 1.4301/1.4307, 1.4401/1.4404, 1.4541, 1.4462.
The main features required from the material: resistance to corrosion in biomass and aquatic environments (including marine).
